VIGAN RECENT SALES IN THE PNEUMATIC MARKET

In autumn last year, Belgian bulk handling specialist Vigan delivered a type 400 pneumatic ship unloader to Global Enterprises in the Port of Pusan in South Korea. This unit, mounted on rubber wheels, boasts an unloading capacity of 42Stph (metric). Using the latest technology from Vigan, this unloader enables considerable savings in energy thanks to a special electronic control system, which also ensures better management of the running speeds of the turbo blowers.

The use of new anti-wear materials in this model has also proven to be very successful. (A picture of this ship unloader is featured on the outside front cover of Dry Cargo International May 2004)

By the end of last year and beginning of 2004, the Vigan team agreed two major details in China, for alumina units. As has been widely reported, China is undergoing a boom time in many areas. Demand for aluminium is very high in many sectors, such as construction, the automobile market and beverage industries.

Vigan has won two major contracts:

  • 1/ for the Port of Rizhao, two large NIV 400 AL ship unloaders, to discharge alumina at a nominal capacity of 300tph. Each of these specially designed units will have six weighing scales and big bag filling systems directly mounted on the gantry of the unloaders. Packing of the alumina will make it easier to transport the product to the inland smelting plants. These two units are scheduled for delivery in the middle of this year.
  • 2/ for the Port of Lianyungang, two NIV 400 AL large unloaders, to discharge alumina at a nominal capacity of 300tph.
The alumina unloaded by each Vigan unit will be conveyed into two quayside hoppers, each equipped with two big bag weighing and filling systems.
Delivery is expected by the end of the year.

Other recent contracts for Vigan include:

  • in March this year, the delivery of a special Vigan model to the Port of Gdynia in Poland. This unit is used for Olvit Trade, which is operating at the port. This machine has a capacity of 170tph, and can be used to unload and load small-size vessels and/or barges.
  • for Greece, two NIV 200 towers are currently being mounted, and has a nominal capacity of 250tph.
  • for Morocco, 1 NIV 30 on rails; this model has a scale mounted on the gantry to weigh the products that are to be loaded to trucks or railcars.
  • for Nigeria, a NIV 200 will be commissioned in autumn this year. This unit, mounted on rubber wheels and with a diesel generator, will be based in Lagos for a UK company. several mobile machines NIV 160 will be delivered in 2004

The company is also involved in contracts in many other countries, but the details of these projects remain confidential at this stage.

Generally speaking, 2005 looks to be a very promising year for Vigan in terms of current sales enquiries and ongoing projects.

The reasons for this are that the current cost of transporting bulk product by sea is high (greatly due to the current boom in demand from China), so port operators are looking for efficient equipment to reduce unloading times, tie-up and demurrage costs.

Also, port authorities are moving further towards the promotion - and sometimes enforcement - of the use of environmentally friendly machines that cause less dust and noise and offer higher levels of safety to the operators.
