Vigan in operation around the world

Belgian company VIGAN is a big player in the bulk handling business. For details of its alumina handling expertise, see "Alumina handling: coping with a hard-to-handle materials," on page 50 of this issue.

Follows a brief description of some of the recent contracts which this bulk handling giant has been awarded.

PORT OF MARARANI (SOUTH OF PERU)

This is the country's first private port, and the concession was awarded to the Romero Group. After several years during which VIGAN enjoyed a close relationship with the customer, the company was awarded the contract for a large 400 tph ship unloader. This unit will also be capable of loading vessels. It will principally be used to handle soybean meal originating from the Bolivian soy beans crushing plants in Santa Cruz de la Sierra areas near the Brazilian border.
This private port has been challenged to increase the volume of products that it handles. Its good commercial performance will also persuade the Peruvian authorities of the wisdom of going ahead with the privatization of other national ports.
To date, about US$ 3 milions has been invested and TISUR (www.tisur.com.pe), which manages the port, is seen as a prime example of successful privatization.

UK AND BRAZIL

During the last 12 months, Cargill - already a long-standing Vigan customer - has ordered three large VIGAN units. One is for the United Kingdom and two are intended for Brazil, for installation at a new plant in Santarém along the Amazon River.

OTHER INSTALLATIONS WORLDWIDE

During the last year, VIGAN has supplied mobile units, with capacities of up to 200 tph, to Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, China, Bangladesh, Greece, Salvador, Ivory Coast, Lebanon and Albania.

During the latest years, VIGAN also sold or delivered large units to France, China, Brazil, Cuba, the UK, Belgium, Taiwan, and Egypt.

There is also work ongoing in the countries mentioned above, as well as the Philippines, Poland, Russia and others - the details of some of these contracts are still under commercial negotiation and therefore remain confidential.

IMPROVING SYSTEMS

VIGAN is constantly striving to improve the efficiency of its pneumatic systems. Major developments include the introduction of new materials to improve resistance to wear, a new air filtration process and several devices to reduce energy consumption.
