WORLD GRAIN – December 2002
Easing the flow
The Port or Liverpool calculates that a newly acquired Vigan ship
unloader, installed by Cargill at its Brocklebank Dock rapeseed
crushing facility, will result 2,500 fewer trucks a year
on UK roads.
Cargilll
now expects 25 vessels per year to ship rapeseed into Liverpool
as the opposed to transporting it by road.
The company is also looking to handle shipments from third parties.
The Vigan pneumatic unloader, which can discharge a ship at a rate
of 170t/h, was purchased with the assistance of a Department or Transport
Freight Facility Grant.
"By shipping up to 5,000 tons in a time by sea from other parts
of Britain and mainland Europe, we are not only securing valuable
supplies for the plant and extra traffic for the port, but we are
also substantially reducing the number or truck movements across
the country's network," says Cargill's port superintendent
- Andrew Polter. I
An additional 25 vessels a year are now expected at Brocklebank
Dock thanks to the new Vigan unloader.
